Women Mean Business Network has heard of the recent successes of a young lady who has ties to our organization. Anne Matiowsky, daughter of the Master of Ceremonies at our Mixers, Len Matiowsky, is a recent student graduate from the Esthetics program at St Lawrence College (SLC) in Kingston.
This young lady is at the top of her game as an aspiring Esthetician but her real claim to fame is her recent successes as a competitor at the provincial and national levels in the Canada Skills Competitions. Anne recently competed at the provincial competition in Waterloo, ON, May 3rd, and took the gold medal in the Esthetics category. Her victory qualified her to compete at the national level as part of Team Ontario in Moncton, NB, June 6th and 7th. Supervised closely by her instructors, Anne said she practiced up to six hours a day to prepare for the national competition in addition to attending classes and her perseverance and hard work paid off.
Anne again won the gold medal and is now the Canadian National Gold Medalist in Esthetics. This is significant because it clears the way for her to represent the nation at the international skills competition in Abu Dhabi, UAE, in 2017. What a story this young lady is writing!
What is even more incredible about Anne is the fact that, as a teenager, she battled issues of body image, an eating disorder and self-confidence that had the potential to be debilitating to say the least. Anne would not be defeated, however. She overcame her personal challneges and is a living example that teenage girls can escape the demons that often plague them in our society.
Not only has she dropped those chains of self-doubt, she has excelled beyond even her own expectations! Anne was supported in her formation by her parents, Len and Carole Matiowsky, teachers at Frontenac Secondary School and most recently her instructors at SLC, namely Karen Gale and Program Director, Diana Boboti-Senis. Karen accompanied Anne to Moncton and said “Anne is amazing; she is a hard-working, determined young woman!
Anne and I had a little saying which was to strive to be better than her best.” Diana believes passion for the field, enthusiasm, staying positive and hardworking ethics will help you to achieve your goals. Anne’s strength and determination will not only serve her well as an international competitor and an Esthetician, it will serve her in life because the strength she has found to excel in her newfound profession can be applied anywhere, no matter what obstacles stand in her way.
